Inspection Reports

Independent Schools Inspectorate Report,
November 2004

Summary

"The school has many strengths in nearly all aspects of its provision; principal amongst these are the following:

The overall quality of teaching is good.

Pupils achieve good standards in English and mathematics.

Provision for pastoral care and personal development are very good.

Pupils are happy and that their learning and behaviour are good.

The school has very good links with parents and the community."

Attainment and Progress

"Pupils make good progress at each stage. Good progress is made in English in reading, writing, speaking and listening. Pupils’ progress is good in mathematics; they make particularly good progress in mental calculation. Pupils make good progress in science, their knowledge of materials and their qualities is good but they make less progress with their investigative skills."

" Supportive teaching enables pupils of below average ability and those with English as an additional language to make satisfactory progress. Girls and boys make equally good progress. Pupils with minority ethnic backgrounds make good progress."

Pastoral Care

"The provision of pastoral care is very good."

"The measures the school takes to promote good discipline and behaviour are very effective. The school has few formal rules; concern for others and sensible behaviour are consistently encouraged. The school actively promotes tolerance and understanding. House points provide suitable encouragement for pupils and are awarded for effort, kindness or good work. Pupils are very keen to win points for their house and their performance is celebrated in a weekly assembly. Procedures to guard against harassment and bullying are very effective. A positive approach is taken to behaviour management; when pupils misbehave or have a disagreement with another pupil they discuss the matter with a teacher and soon resolve the difficulty."
